As a young auditor or tax professional, you’ll be exposed to most aspects of the work early in your career―not simply relegated to the same simple, routine procedures for huge clients―and you’ll be given significant responsibility from the beginning.

Because we realize that most people in a new position don’t hit the ground running, you’ll have a peer advisor during your first year with Bader Martin. Your advisor will answer the day-to-day questions that inevitably arise and help you become familiar with our policies and procedures.
After your first six months with the firm, and throughout your career at Bader Martin, you’ll also have the option to participate in our coaching and confidential mentoring program. You’ll choose a personal mentor from among the firm’s professionals that are one or two levels above your own. Your mentor will provide encouragement, support, and the private professional and personal advice to help you succeed.

You’ll continue to grow professionally through a comprehensive life-long learning program that includes on‑the‑job training, in‑house and externally sponsored courses, brown‑bag lunches, and informal mentoring. We ensure that every professional staff member meets or exceeds AICPA and Washington State Board of Accountancy requirements for continuing professional education. We’ll help you to develop a training plan that matches your personal interests and professional goals.
If you are new to the practice of public accounting, we provide support and a program of initial training to help you make the transition. If you’re experienced, we’ll support your efforts to earn advanced degrees and certifications. We also provide opportunities to develop marketing and communications skills, strategic and leadership abilities, and specific expertise in the industries and services that reflect your chosen career path.
Flexible professional development
You have the flexibility to take your career where you want it to go at Bader Martin, to craft your own career path. Most young professionals join our general practice, with an emphasis in tax or assurance services. However, as time goes on, you may prefer to move from tax to assurance or assurance to tax—or to participate in both.
You can explore the firm’s specialized practice areas emphasizing services or industries—for example, high net worth, family business, not‑for‑profit, or real estate. As you gain experience, you’ll have opportunities to focus your work and career according to the industries, services, and practice areas that are of most interest to you.
Smart phones, the web, office intranets, remote access software, paperless offices―technology continues to transform the way we work, both in the office and in collaboration with clients. It leverages time and expertise.
As a member of the Bader Martin staff, you’ll have strategic access to world-class technology products that expand your capabilities and your productivity, including CCH ProSystem fx Engagement and Document, CCH Practice Management, Caseware IDEA, Thompson Financial Software, Microsoft Sharepoint, Citrix, and, of course, notebooks and dual-monitor desktop computers.
You’ll be supported by an in-house IT group dedicated to helping you learn and understand the technology, and use it successfully. We’ll also support your personal use of current technology, including cell phones and high‑speed internet, with a monthly technology allowance.
Advancement based on performance
Promotions here are based on accomplishments, abilities and readiness to assume additional responsibility, not on a rigid time‑in‑rank mentality. You’ll advance when your performance merits the advancement and increased responsibility.
All staff members receive formal, written performance evaluations every six months, supplemented by less formal reviews upon completing significant assignments. Our evaluations are 360° and they’re based on confidential input from all those you work with―regardless of level―not simply your immediate supervisor. You’ll have the opportunity to provide feedback to your colleagues and supervisors, as well.
The crucial feedback from these performance evaluations, combined with more casual feedback and ongoing mentoring, provides the personalized guidance that will enable you to excel in your career at Bader Martin.
