Services for Not-for-Profit Organizations

It’s all about passion, that relentless drive to make a difference in your community, your world. And it’s about the business of doing good.

Bader Martin can help with the financial and advisory services that allow you to do it well. Our not-for-profit practice delivers an integrated, year-round suite of services for not-for-profit organizations and private foundations, as well as their executives and donors.

You might say we have a special passion for not-for-profit organizations. With backgrounds in auditing, tax planning, governance, industry best practices, growth and sustainability strategies, and operational planning, our professionals are skilled business advisors for our not-for-profit clients. Licensed CPAs, they also possess additional credentials from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, such as the Certificate of Educational Achievement in Not-for-Profit Accounting and Auditing. And they generously volunteer time and expertise to serve the local not-for-profit community.

Among the services we offer to not-for-profit organizations are the following:

  Financial Reporting

  Hosted Accounting

  Operations and Sustainability

  Governance and Policies

  Tax Reporting

Personal Financial Services for Executives and Donors

Financial Reporting
Access to accurate and timely financial information is essential. We can help you to develop and manage efficient, cost-effective accounting systems, consult with you regarding generally accepted accounting principles and appropriate controls, and provide training as necessary. Our accounting technicians also assist with data entry and troubleshooting, and can provide a variety of other specialized accounting services.

Our assurance professionals provide audits, reviews and compilation services for not-for-profit organizations—as well as specialized yellow book and A-133 single audits, audits for employee benefit plans, and HUD audits. We also provide such related services as agreed-upon procedures and reports on prospective financial information.

Hosted Accounting
If your organization uses QuickBooks® or Peachtree® accounting software, Bader Martin offers an online, hosted accounting solution.

Our hosting service allows you and your staff, as well as any authorized Bader Martin professionals, to access your financial data simultaneously—from an internet connection anywhere in the world. You always have immediate access to your financial records. The service also permits our accountants and technicians to provide online training, as well as troubleshooting and accounting assistance.

Operations and Sustainability
Growth and sustainability-enhancement strategies, internal controls, budgeting and cash flow management, capital campaigns—most not-for-organizations have financial and operational concerns that extend beyond a simple information return or an audit.

Our professionals are year-round advisors and creative problem solvers who provide crucial assistance, when you need it, throughout the year—including such diverse matters as compensation consulting, retirement plan structure and operations, risk assessment and management, strategic planning, and process improvement.

Governance and Policies
Challenging times call for strong, informed, and effective leaders. We can assist with board training, best practices consulting, and policy development—for spending, fund-raising, donations, and endowments.

Tax Reporting
Always a complicated matter, tax reporting became immeasurably more complex for many not-for-profit organizations with the release of updated federal tax forms.

Our tax professionals are experts in tax compliance and consulting for federal, state, and local jurisdictions. We can also assist you with tax controversy representation, strategic tax planning, not-for-profit status (including applications for exemption), unrelated business income tax (UBIT) consulting, cost allocation among entities, and net operating losses.

Personal Financial Services for Executives and Donors
As your personal financial advisor, we adopt an integrated approach to financial management—one that is tailored to reflect your unique circumstances. We merge traditional financial, tax and wealth planning services with the strategic and advisory services that establish where you want to go and how to get you there. And, ultimately, we support you in achieving your financial and personal goals.

Among the service we provide our not-for-profit executives and donors are the following.

  Tax planning and tax returns

  Accounting/bookkeeping services and check writing

  Personal and family financial statements

  Financial planning and modeling

  Family offices

  Budgeting and cash flow planning

  Estate/gift planning and wealth transfer

  Education funding

  Retirement planning

  Real estate investments consulting

Compensation, stock options and fringe benefit consulting

Insurance planning and personal liability protection

Coordination with attorneys, bankers, brokers and other professionals

To ensure that we exercise independent judgment and operate only in your best interest, we never sell products, recommend investments or accept commissions.
